Fluorescent dissolved oxygen probes have become the mainstream trend, gradually replacing electrochemical dissolved oxygen probes.
As the key instrument for monitoring dissolved oxygen in aquaculture water, the dissolved oxygen probe provides essential data that is most frequently referenced in production. Its measurement accuracy is critical. Inaccurate monitoring data lacks value and may lead to production losses. Considering the specific environmental characteristics of aquaculture water and the decreasing cost of the new generation of fluorescent dissolved oxygen probes, the existing electrochemical dissolved oxygen probes in the market are increasingly losing their relevance and market share compared to these new probes.

Comparison of the new generation of fluorescent dissolved oxygen probes versus electrochemical dissolved oxygen probes:
Routine Maintenance Comparison:
Electrochemical Method: This method requires adding electrolytes every 1-2 months, regular replacement of membrane heads, and calibration. It involves significant and cumbersome maintenance.
Fluorescent Method: Almost maintenance-free, typically only requiring the replacement of the fluorescent membrane every 2-3 years.
Interference Resistance Comparison:
Electrochemical Probe: The measurement results are affected by water flow, with weak resistance to interference. It is easily influenced by various chemical substances in the water, such as heavy metal ions, H₂S, and NH₄.
Fluorescent Probe: The measurement results are not affected by water flow and have strong resistance to interference, with little to no impact from other factors, making it highly interference-resistant.
In actual production, aquaculture water environments tend to be eutrophic, which requires frequent cleaning of the probes. Given the complicated maintenance of electrochemical probes, many aquaculture operators do not adhere to proper cleaning and calibration procedures. Combined with the high level of interference, this often results in inaccurate measurements, posing production risks. With the decreasing price of fluorescent dissolved oxygen probes, their adoption has become inevitable.
